Parcels, Pastries; and Pringle’s Pencil
The arrival of The SS Banana at the Pier this morning was met with the usual frantic energy as three hundred kilos of mail were hoisted onto the Boardwalk. Percy the Postie; whose calf muscles are quickly becoming a local landmark; was spotted departing the Strand at 13:00 sharp; his bicycle basket overflowing with parcels from the Big Island.
Residents on Coral Crescent reported that Percy was making such good time that he managed a three-minute "strategic hydration" stop at The Squeeze without falling behind the Postmaster’s rigorous schedule.
"The volume of postcards today was frankly unruly;" noted Postmaster Pringle; whilst sharpening his third pencil of the morning. "I suspect a sudden surge of sentimentality on the North Shore. I’ve told Percy that if he finds himself ahead of schedule; he is to wait at the corner of Frangipani Mews until the clock catches up with him. We cannot have the post arriving before the residents have had their afternoon tea; it throws off the entire equilibrium of the island."
