Coconut Bay: A State of Equilibrium

Located somewhere between the trade winds and a second cup of coffee, Coconut Bay operates on a philosophy of "Strategic Stillness". We are less a coordinate on a map and more a state of mind—a place where the clocks don't tick so much as they gently nudge you towards the next sunset.

From Indigo Inlet to Coconut Bay

Before 1974, our shores were known as Indigo Inlet—a quiet hurricane hole for mariners and a sanctuary for a few hardy coconut farmers. Everything changed in the summer of that year when a freighter carrying a shipment of tropical fruit and vintage radio equipment ran aground on the sandbars near the Basin.

Instead of a catastrophe, we found a windfall. The resulting "Great Coconut Crate Shipwreck" provided the salvaged cedar for the first planks of our Boardwalk and the inspiration for our town’s name.

The Birth of the Signal

The radio equipment from that wreck sat in the back of Billy’s Bait Shop for over half a century, its vacuum tubes slowly gathering salt. It stayed there until ‘Coconut’ Pete Costa, a local who had spent decades as a broadcaster on the mainland, retired back to the island in 2024.

Pete didn't see junk; he saw a treasure. He spent the next two years painstakingly restoring the vintage gear and stringing our antenna between two patient palm trees. Today, Radio Coconut Bay is in its final testing phase, preparing for our official Spring 2026 launch from the wooden hut we call The Beach Shack.

Local Rituals

While the mainland worries about "growth," our local council, led by Mayor Sands, is more concerned with the thickness of the sand and the timing of the swell.

If you’re new to the Bay, the rules are simple:

  • First Light: Belongs to Mrs. Crumble at The Shoreline Café. The cinnamon is fresh, and the gossip is even fresher.

  • The Commute: If you’re in a hurry, you’ll find Buster Bean’s Coffee Cart near the marina, though "hurry" is a relative term here.

  • The Evening Sundowner: As the sun begins its descent, all boardwalks lead to The Pelican’s Perch. Under the watchful eye of Sullivan "Sully" Drake, we gather to watch the sky turn that specific shade of indigo that means we’re right at home in our happy place.

Radio Coconut Bay will be your official soundtrack to our island life.
