The Great Town Square Shade Debate

The Coconut Bay Town Council, led by the impeccably dressed Clara Holloway of Sugar Sands Boutique, convened this morning under the very trees currently causing a stir. The topic of the day was the strategic pruning of the town square palm trees. It’s a matter that has divided the community into two distinct camps: the Sun-Seekers and the Shade-Dwellers.

The Sun-Seekers, headed by Holloway, argue that the fronds should be thinned to allow the "Golden Hour" light to better illuminate the colourful storefronts along The Strand. "A bit of light is essential for appreciating the true hue of a quality Hawaiian shirt," Clara noted, gesturing towards her boutique.

However, the Shade-Dwellers have found a champion in Mrs. Crumble of The Salty Parrot. "A shaded nap is a fundamental right in this Bay," Mrs. Crumble declared, brandishing a wooden coffee stirrer for emphasis. "If we prune for the light, we sacrifice the siesta. And frankly, I don't care how good a shirt looks if the person wearing it is too sun-baked to enjoy it."

The council has adjourned until next week, leaving the palms—and the hammocks—untouched for now.
